This Is Air
Prepared for publication by Rachel Lim
Mrs Seahorse tells us a story of a human-filled train. It arrives at Blueknife Station, where David waits with his drink. Avocado milkshake with coconut ice cream, white and green layers distinct. The train doors open to a wall of bodies. It blocks him from his dinner of glass noodles and bamboo shoots. He reaches out and shoves a Nike backpack, causing its owner to stumble. Problem solved. He boards as he should. The train passes a lighthouse and David wishes he lived there, alone in a rusty tower. This is air, says Mrs Seahorse. The aquarium amplifies her words.
